Roman Egypt Tetradrachm of NUMERIAN Item sold for $43.00 Ended 22nd March 2000 Seller praetorian This piece was minted for Roman Egypt in 284 AD, during the reign of Numerian, who ruled from 283-284 AD. Numerian was one of two sons of Carus, and was made Caesar on his father's accession. The obverse depicts the laureate and draped bust of Numerian facing right, with Greek legends for A.K.M.AN.NOVMEIRIANOS.SEB. The reverse features Eirene (Pax) standing left, holding olive branch and transverse sceptre, with legend ETOVS Gamma. This denotes that this piece was minted in year 3 of the reign of Carinus. Coin grades a Good VF, with bold devices and legends all around. A very nice example of the type, catalogued as Milne 4735.
