Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, AE17 of Antioch, Pisidia, AD 143-161. 2.94 g. M AVRELIO ANTONI, bare-headed, draped bust left. ANTIOCHAE, eagle standing front, head right, wings spread. Unpublished. HJB 192, 327. The seller described this coin as Caracalla, also unpublished and not on the RPC website. However, the obverse of this coin is almost identical to the reversed image of Von Aulock 4923 (though the legend is different) and the form of the eagle with its hook-shaped wings similar to a known, poorly engraved coin struck for Commodus. So I will place this under Marcus Aurelius based on the similarity of the workmanship. With permission of Harlan J. Berk, Buy or Bid Sale 192, Lot 327, Oct. 2014.
