Julia Domna, AE23 of Hyrkanis, Lydia. Strategos Lucius. IOVLIA dot CEBACTH, draped bust right. EPI CTR LOVKIOV, YRKANWN below, Hades in galloping biga right, carrying off Persephone who is raising both arms. Unpublished. John Aiello collection. This strategos was very active in different Lydian cities, especially during the slightly earlier time of Commodus and Crispina. Mionnet and Babelon list him as strategos for Adramyteon, Mysia. Münsterberg lists him for Baris, Bagis, Dioshieron, Hypaepa as well as for Ancyra and Hadrianopolis, Phrygia. But the city name of Hyrkanis on this coin is unmistakeable. Severus Alexander struck a coin with the name of Lucius (as LOYKIO) but as Archon, from Priene and with Hades in a quadriga, not a biga (Regling Priene 212, cf. Mionnet Suppl. VI p. 299, 1386). This coin is not listed in BMC, Imhoof Lydische Stadtm., other Imhoof works, Loebbecke, Mionnet, SNG Cop, Turkey, Von Aulock, Keckman, Munich, Pfalz, etc. Contributed by John Aiello, June 2013.
