Diadumenian Billon Tetradrachm of Antioch, 217-218 AD. 26,00mm, 13.27g. Obv: KAIS dot M dot OPEL dot ANTWNEINOC, bare-headed, cuirassed bust right. Rev: dot DHMARC dot EX UPATO, dot D dot E dot (across fields), eagle standing left on sacrificial victim, wings spread, head and tail right, holding wreath in beak. Prieur 248 Notes: At the time of striking the coin, Diadumenian was only nine years old and his presentation wearing a cuirass was very optimistic. The portrait, very different from the image used by engravers in Rome, was most likely engraved in Antioch itself, and is very realistic which leads one to believe that the engraver had actually seen the young boy.
