Commodus AE32 of Philippopolis, Thrace. Obv: AY KAI M AVR KOMODOC, laureate head right Rev: HGE KAI SEROUEILIOU FILIPPOPOLEITWN, Apollo standing left, holding branch in lowered right hand and lyre on tripod in left hand. SNG Cop:-; BMC:-; Varbanov:- (old/new); Moushmov:-; Mionnet:-; SNG Fitz:-; von Aulock; apparently unpublished. Ancient Coin Art, item no. 3248, July 2003. Added from old "Mystery Coins" folder, May 2010. Note - although only the FI of the city name is visible, the attribution to Philippopolis in Thrace is indisputable, as the legate Seroeilus was only active in this town. This reverse is unknown for Commodus - a similar one, albeit with Apollo's right hand raised, was made for Crispina and Elagabalus.
