Commodus, AR denarius, struck under Marcus Aurelius. Struck 178 AD. L AVREL COMMODVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. TR P III IMP II COS P P, Salus seated left, holding branch, feeding serpent coiled around altar to left. RIC 649 corr. Sear 5702, Cohen 762; RSC 762 corr.. These coins prove that Cohen's description of his Cohen 762) was correct, and that RSC 762 as "snake coiled up from ground" is incorrect. Even the RIC author (see note to Marcus Aurelius RIC 649) made the same error with "Cohen's description of this rev. type is inaccurate."
