308. Tyra. Circa 350-300 BC. AR Drachm (5.65 gm). Three-quarter facing head of Demeter, slightly left, wearing veil and two grain ears in hair / Bull butting left. SNG BMC Black Sea 334 (same obverse die). Toned, nice VF, good metal quality. Very Rare. ($1000) A nearly identical obverse type was also used at Kyzikos on an EL Stater (von Fritze 186), also dated to this same general time period (see Leu Auktion 77, lot 271 for an enlargement). Obviously one was the prototype for the other, but which came first is uncertain. CNG Mail bid sale #58, 18 Sept 2001, lot 308. Used by permission of CNG, www.historicalcoins.com
