EF, dark brown patina. 721460 Apamaeia was founded by the Seleukid king Antiochos I Sotor circa 260 BC near the source of the Meander River in southern Anatolia. It was named for his mother, Apama. Its nickname, kibwtos means "the chest," and may come from the same name applied to Noah's Ark (Mount Ararat, where the Ark came to rest, was located behind the town). It might also refer to the town being a place where goods were packed in chests for shipment. This coin was minted under Roman rule, hence the caps of the Dioscuri.
