Ancient Coinage of Mopsus, Cilicia



Founded on the Pyramus River in Cilicia in the 10th c. BC as Pahri, renamed over the years as Seleukeia ad Pyramum (5th-2nd c. BC), Mopsus, Mopsos or Mopsuestia (1st-2nd c. AD), Massisa (8th-10th c. AD), Mamistra, Mampsysta, Mamestia and Misses (11th-14th c. AD), and Misis (15th c. to date). An archaeological park is currently being planned on the site.
