Julian II served as Caesar under Constantius II from 355-360 AD. He later ruled as Augustus from 360-363. Julian was given the name "The Apostate" by Christian historians because of his renunciation of the Christian faith as the official faith of the empire, and his attempts to restore the old pagan beliefs to prominence. Julian was also a man of considerable literary achievements, and some of his writings are still extant. He could as easily be called "The Philosopher" as "The Apostate". The obverse of this piece depicts the bare-headed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Julian II facing right, with legends D.N.IVLIANVS.NOB.CAES. The reverse features the legends VOTIS.V.MVLTIS.X. within a wreath, with mint/oficina mark TCON in the exergue. This piece grades a choice XF/XF+, with bold devices and legends all around, and attractive original colour, showing lovely iridescence on the reverse. The scan simply cannot show how nice a piece this is. A marvelous example of the scarcer silver coinage of Julian II Caesar, this piece is catalouged as RIC-264. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on clearance of funds. PA residents please add appropriate sales tax. Visa/MC accepted for orders of $20 or more. Member ANA, PAN. Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Image] Bidding Bidding is closed for this item.
