Description XP - Last Roman Pagan Type ?? - Justin I [Image] Click here for a larger size image of this lot * Justin I, 518-527 AD, AE Pentanummium of Antioch, 13mm. * Obv: DN IVSTINVS PP AVG; Right facing bust of Justin I with cuirass, paludamentum and diadem. * Rev: Tyche of Antioch seated left; half submerged figure of River-God swimming at her feet; to the left, retrograde epsilon; all within columned shrine. * Hahn 2000 #67, Berk #100, Sear Byz. #111. * A great coin with a nice Levantine patina. It could be argued that this type, along with it's matching joint reign issue, could be the last Pagan design for a coin struck by the Roman {Romaion} Empire. The detail on this piece is good enough to make out the head and upper body of the River-God swimming at the feet of Tyche. This is the nicest coin of the type I have had. Your collection should include this interesting, well preserved, historical piece. This is a No Reserve auction. Money Order, Check or PayPal are acceptable for payment. I charge $2 for shipping. Foreign shipments will be made only by Global Priority for a fee of $5. Registered foreign shipment - $8, unless you discuss other arrangements with me first.
