Veturius (Veturia 1) - minted ca. 137 BC Obverse : Online Draped and helmeted bust of Mars right, "X" and TI. VET" behind. Ancient Coin Dealers Reverse : since 1997. Youth kneeling between 2 warriors holding a pig. The warriors touch the pig with their swords. "ROMA" above. Grade : gF/gF - crudely serrated. Notes : This coin was minted by one of the oldest gens in Rome. The reverse may refer to the form of oath taking that was used among the Italian States. An interesting coin because it appears that someone tried to serrate it some time after it was minted. The obverse has a decent portrait of Mars with partial inscription. The reverse is nicely done with the oath scene clearly visible. Unfortunetely the pig is not visible because of a flat spot. An interesting and historic coin. GOOD LUCK!
