                                Description

     This piece was minted circa 138 BC, under the authority of the
     moneyer C. Renius. The obverse type depicts the head of Roma
     facing right, X behind. The reverse features Juno Caprotina in a
     biga of goats right, with C.RENI. below the goats, and ROMA in
     the exergue. From the type, it may be assumed that this gens was
     of Lanuvium, where Juno Caprotina was especially worshipped. This
     is one of the earliest denarii where the type is a direct
     reference to family history. Coin is struck on a smallish flan,
     but otherwise grades a nice VF, with bold devices and legends
     where struck up. A pleasing example of this scarcer early type,
     catalouged as Renia 1. All coins guaranteed genuine without
     limitations. Buyer pays postage/insurance, coin shipped on
