Pompeius Fostlus (Pompeia 1) - minted ca. 137 BC Obverse : Online Head of Roma right, jug behind. Ancient Coin Dealers Reverse : since 1997. "SEX. P[OM. FOSTLVS]". She wolf suckling the twins Romulus and Remus, Shepard on right, birds in fig tree behind. "ROMA" in exergue. Grade : gF/gF Notes : This coin comes from a plebian family who claimed to have been descended from Faustulus, the royal shepard to Aumilius, who found the she wolf and twins. According to legend, the twins were found at the foot of the Palatine after the cradle that carried them down the Tiber overturned at the foot of a fig tree. Other than a slight mark on the face of Roma, this coin this coin has no real problems other than normal wear. A nice example of a Roman story telling coin. GOOD LUCK!
