                                Description

     This piece was minted circa 90 BC under the authority of the
     moneyer L. Calpurnius Piso Frugi. The obverse type depicts the
     laureate head of Apollo right, symbol behind. The reverse
     features a horseman galloping right, holding palm, with legend
     L.PISO.FRVGI. and letter below. This type refers to the Ludi
     Apollinares, established in 212 BC. The annual celebration of
     these games was proposed by the praetor L.Calpurnius Piso, an
     ancestor of the moneyer. Coin is a little off center, but
     otherwise grades a nice VF, with clear to bold devices and
     legends where struck up, and even hints of the original mint
     lustre evident. A nice example of the type, catalouged as
     Calpurnia 11. All coins guaranteed genuine without limitations.
