Head of Janus, I above. / Prow right. Thurlow-Vecchi 51; Crawford 35/1; Haeberlin pl. 12-13; BMCRR (Rome) 1. VF, smoothed dark green patina, some scratches on the prow. The early cast Roman bronzes weighed nearly 12 uncia, a full Roman pound. An interesting paper-weight sized coin. This example was probably "improved" by a 19th century "expert." Much of the original heavy patina has been smoothed, though the coin has an attractive presence. CLICK HERE TO E-MAIL US before you bid, if you have a question about this item.
