                  ORC7906 Aes Grave Janus / Prow 270g VF

Anonymous, AE as, (c. 270g) Aes Grave As, c. 240-225 BC. Head of Janus, I
above. / Prow right. Thurlow-Vecchi 51; Crawford 35/1; Haeberlin pl. 12-13;
BMCRR (Rome) 1. VF, smoothed dark green patina, some scratches on the prow.

The early cast Roman bronzes weighed nearly 12 uncia, a full Roman pound.
An interesting paper-weight sized coin. This example was probably
"improved" by a 19th century "expert." Much of the original heavy patina
has been smoothed, though the coin has an attractive presence.
