                        ROMAN REPUBLIC: Pellet under neck. . AR 
                        quadrigatus-didrachm (6.49 gm).

                        Military mint in Italy, ca. 217(?)-214 BC. Laureate head 
                        of Janus, pellet under neck / Jupiter in quadriga right, 
                        holding thunderbolt and scepter, Victory behind, ROMA in 
                        relief and incuse on raised rectangular tablet below. 
                        Cr. 31/1, pl iv, 10. Syd. 64c. RSC 23a. A scarce 
                        variety. Shallow flan crack at 3:00 on obverse and a few 
                        light marks. Lightly toned. Extremely fine
