Laureate, Janiform head of Dioscuri, pellet below neck / Jupiter, holding scepter and hurling thunderbolt, in chariot driven right by Victory, ROMA partially incuse on tablet. Cr. 31/1, pl. iv, 10. Very scarce. Beautifully toned. Extremely fine Crawford makes no mention of the pellet below the neck truncation, but this precise type is illustrated in his plates. The Janiform head is distinct from those on other quadrigati. Its unique style, the pellet, and the unusual treatment of the ethnic seem to mark this as an isolated issue of a branch mint.
