Gemini III, January 9th, 2007 Lot # 349 Vespasian. (69-79 AD). AV aureus (7.55 gm). Ephesus?, 69-70 AD. IMP CAESAR VESPAS–IANV–S AVG (from top right), laureate head right CONCORDIA AVG, Ceres seated left, veiled, on high-backed throne, holding wheat ears and cornucopia. Calico 597 (same dies). BMCRE 368A. CBN 5 var. Cohen 64 RIC 1348. Extremely rare. Very fine. The mint of this coin is uncertain. The Paris example has the obverse legend beginning at bottom left. Paris attributes these coins erroneously to the Rome mint, Mattingly to an uncertain mint in Gaul, and with a mint in Illyricum. Another possibility would be as part of the earliest issue of the Asia Minor mint itself. Sold for $5750 [ $6612.5, 5111.46 EUR, 3372.37 GBP Re-used by permission of Harlan J Berk and Freeman & Sear
