Vespasian as, his sons, F-VF Vespasian and his sons, Æ as, (9.46g) Lugdunum (?) Mint, [IMP CAESAR VESPAS]IANVS AVG IMP TR P Laureate head right, aegis at tip of neck. / [TITVS ET DOMIT]IAN CAESARES PRIN [IVEN] Titus and Domitian riding right, S C at sides. RIC-; [Image] cf. RIC 292 for an aureus with these types, an as of this [Image] type at the BM, and two in Paris. F-VF, dark patina worn on obverse high points. Ex-Vermuele collection. The reverse type is similar to the obverse of a dupondius issued by Caligula in the names of his two brothers, Nero and Drusus Caesar. The pose copies the pose of famous statues of the brothers Castor and Pollux. The implication is that the sons of Vespasian will be the hope of the future. This specimen, like the examples at the BM and Paris is centered to the left on both sides.
