            Traiana reclining left on rock, head right, 
            holding wheel and branch. RIC II 636 var.

            The Via Traiana, constructed at Trajan's own 
            expense between 109 AD and 113 AD, replaced the 
            Via Appia as the usual route between Brindisium to 
            Beneventum.
