Septimius Severus, 193-211 AD, Silver Denarius. East mint, 194AD. Obv. nice portrait/ Cos II. Reverse: INVICTO IMP TROPA... Trophy with arms at base. C. 234 Trophy in honor of the unconquered emperor. A type taken over by Severus from Pescennius Niger. Commemorating Severus' first victories over Niger at Cyzicus and nicaea in Dec. 193AD. A very rare coin. None in some of the biggest hoards ever found from this period. Possibly only five ever recorded. This specimen in top clear condition, especially the important reverse.
