RIC Page 139 ("7b") (I have inserted this here as this is where it appears in the sequence in RIC. It is not placed in the normal sequence of numbers as it is one of the COS I variety, which at the time were thought to be doubtful but have been proven since to exist.) Septimius Severus AR Denarius. Emesa Mint, 194 A.D. IMP CAE L SEP SE.V PERT AVG COS I, Laureate head r. / MONET.A.E AVG, Moneta standing left, holding scales in right hand, cornucopiae in left. RSC 347c. Minted in Emesa in 194 A.D. References . RIC RIC Page 139 (7b) (Rated Scarce). RSC 347c. BMC Page 90 (j) This coin is not placed in the normal sequence of numbers as it is one of the COS I variety (as opposed to the usual COS II), which at the time of writing RIC were thought to be doubtful but have been proven since to exist. This particular example shares the same obverse die as a coin in the Doug Smith collection but as is common with the coinage of Emesa it is used with a different reverse die.
