Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, AE22 struck in Gadara. OYHR KAICAR CEB YIOC, bare-headed, draped bust right. GADAREWN GKC, Tyche standing left on half-figure of river-god, holding sceptre and cornucopiae, being crowned by Nike on column behind her. The coin is generally attributed to Verus because of the legend, but it was struck in 159-160 AD (Year 223), a year before Lucius Verus became co-emperor. It is a very rare issue inscribed with Aurelius' given name, Marcus Annius Verus. Spijkerman 50 incorrectly attributes it to Lucius Verus. Contributed by John Noory, August, 2005.
