                        ROMAN EMPIRE: Justa Grata Honoria. (sister of 
                        Valentinian III). AV solidus (4.43 gm).

                        Ravenna. Diademed, draped bust of Honoria right, hand of 
                        God holding crown above / BONO REI PVBLICAE, angel 
                        standing left, holding long cross, star before head, 
                        R--V across field, COMOB in exergue. RIC 2022. DO --. C. 
                        1. Depeyrot 15/1. RCTV 4319. Extremely rare. Nearly 
                        extremely fine 

                        The reverse legend proclaims that Honoria was "[born] 
                        for the Good of the State." Today the legend cannot be 
                        read without irony, for in AD 449 Honoria was suspected 
                        of plotting against Valentinian, was betrothed or 
                        married to an elderly senator, and sent a secret appeal 
                        to Attila the Hun, who demanded her hand in marriage and 
                        half the kingdom as her dowry.
