Description This piece was minted during the reign of Hadrian, who ruled from 117-138 AD. Hadrian is famed as the emperor who built Hadrian's Wall, the massive fortification erected across the northernmost British frontier of the empire to defend against marauding Scots and Picts. He is also known for his extensive travels throughout the empire. The obverse of this type depicts the laureate bust of Hadrian facing right, slight drapery on far shoulder, with legends IMP.CAESAR.TRAIAN.HADRIANVS.AVG. The reverse features Pax standing left, holding branch and sceptre, with legends P.M.TR.P.COS.III. Coin is struck slightly off center, but otherwise grades AVF, with clear to bold devices and legends where struck up, and a nice portrait. An attractive example of the type, catalogued as RSC-1140a.
