Gratian A.D. 337-361, AE 3 (18mm), F++ Item #103625736 Winning bid $9.95 Ended 19th May 1999 Seller paws1 Gratian A.D. 337-361, AE 3 (18mm), F++ Obverse: Diademed, draped bust of the emperor facing right, D.N.GRATIANVS P.F.AVG in legend. Reverse: Gratian holding labrum with a “Chi-Rho” in it, while dragging a captive right by the hair. Right field contains a * and a K with GLORIA ROMANORVM in the legend. TES in the exergue (minted in Thessalonica) Nicely centered with a dark brown patina. This coin is quite nice, it has full legends with some lightened highlights. This coin is interesting because it is apparent that a master celator did the artwork and a novice apprentice did the lettering…. The lettering is poorly spaced and sized.. Listed as Sear (4th.Edition) #4143, valued at 25 pounds.
