GORDIAN III. 238-244 AD. Æ Medallion - 37mm (62.02 
gm). Laureate and cuirassed bust left, holding 
spear over right shoulder, shield, decorated with 
Gordian on horseback, on left arm / Gordian 
standing left, on the right, sacrificing from 
patera over lighted altar, Nike standing behing 
placing a wreath on his head; in background, Sol 
driving a facing quadriga, standard behind; below, 
the Tigris and Euphrates reclining. Gnecchi 24, 
pl. 104, 7. Good VF, dark brown surfaces, field 
smoothed, some letters strengthened, surfaces 
rough. Rare. ($2500)
