DIADUMENIAN. AE 19. A Roman provincial bronze coin (19 mm diameter) of Diadumenian, struck while he was Caesar during the brief rule of his father Macrinus (AD 217-218). The prince was only ten years old, and would be executed in 218 when Elagabalus overthrew them. Macrinus and Diadumenian were in the East during the entire time they held power, and Antioch served as a virtual eastern capital of the empire during their rule. BMC 408; Sear, Greek Imperial Coins 3017. aVF. 3.6 g. Obv. Cuirassed bust of Diadumenian right, head bare. Rev. SC, Delta above, Epsilon below, surrounded by wreath fastened with star. The SC on the coins of Antioch stood for "Senatus Consulto", and seems to have indicated that they had the status of Roman currency, unlike many other provincial coins.
