Silver Denarius Obverse: M OPEL ANT DIADVMENIAN CAES Bare headed and draped bust right. Reverse: PRINC . IVVENTVTIS . Diadumenian standing left holding wand and sceptre, two standards to right. Condition: EF, much better than picture, beautiful metal with luster in the protected areas. Obverse has full hair detail (which does not show in the picture) with very slight wear on high edges. Reverse has slight wear or slight softness only on some of the high points. Great centering on high relief obverse with attractive artistic die. This coin has one of the best portrait's of Diadumenian that I have ever seen. This variety does not seem to appear as often as the three standard (RIC 102) or Spes (RIC 116) varieties which are estimated at $750 to $1000 in nice EF. I had to go all the way back to March 1997 to find this variety in a CNG auction catalog. Compare to a similar one in CNG 41, lot 2051, where an EF was estimated at $600; the obverse of this coin is slightly better and the reverse slightly worse than the CNG coin.
