       after himself; renamed the months; thought himself to be Hercules

                          Excellent youthful portrait of this cruel and
                          perhaps mad emperor.  This piece issued while
                          Commodus accompanied his father on the German
                          campaign, during which his father authored The
                          Meditations.  The reverse struck with a worn
                          die.
