Commodus Denarius, as Co-Augustus under Marcus Aurelius, 177-178AD. 

Obv: L COMMODVS AVG, young man's laureate draped bust right
Rev: COS P P, Virtus standing right holding spear and resting hand on sheild. 

RIC -, BMC -, Cohen -, but compare to RIC 652 [M.Aurelius] which has Virtus 
standing left.

There is a possibility this is not an official mint issue, though it is full
weight at just around 3 grams, and of reasonable style. Of the several more 
experienced numismatists that have examined it, all but one believe it to be 
official, as do I.


From the collection of the Curator, acquired via an eBay auction for about $30 
in early 2000.
