Massive numbers of these fakes are coming out of Eastern Europe, often sold by unscrupulous sellers in Germany. Please see Forum's Fake Gallery and forgerynetwork.com for the names of sellers. The coin is a forgery. It is an altered version of Schulz 169 as follows: AVT K A ANTWNHNOC, laureate, draped bust right. NEWKORWN KE EFECIEWN, two temples on steps with a figure of Artemis in each. OMONOIA in exergue. The reasons that this is a forgery: 1) The name of Caracalla is incorrect (ANTWNHINOC instead of ANTWNEINOC or ANTWNINOC. Also the title of AVT K A (oder R) M is incorrect for Caracalla - it should be AVT K M ANTWNEINOC, or AVT K M AVR ANTWNEINOC or AVT K M A .... or ANTWNINOC, without an E but NEVER with an "H". 2) The word OMONOIA in the exergue of the reverse means "Harmony" (between two towns) and - on genuine coins - ALWAYS shows the name of both towns, or the personifications of both towns. On this object we have the temples of Ephesos (and the city name EFECIWN) and of Magnesia. But the name MAGNHTWN has been changed (on the left) to NEWKORWN. It would be absolutely unthinkable and a terrible insult to strike a Homonoia coin and ignore the name of the second town. But it is clear that these two temples are those of Artemis Ephesia (Ephesos, Ionia) and of Artemis Leukophrene (Magnesia). So the word NEWKORWN is absolutely incorrect. 3) The face on the obverse is very poorly made, and the boxer's nose looks nothing like Caracalla. _magnesia_Schultz_169_FAKE
