Caracalla. AR Denarius. Poss. Laodicea mint. 196-197 AD. Obv: IMP CAES M AVR ANTON AVG, laureate and draped bust right Rev: PRINC IVVENTVTIS, Caracalla as Prince of Youth, in military dress, standing left before a trophy, holding spear, right hand raised. RIC 329 var, Cohen 505 var. Unpublished with this obverse legend. Possibly a hybrid with the reverse of RIC 18 struck for his brother Geta or a high quality ancient imitation in view of the R of AVR, the uneven lettering on the reverse and the right hand of the prince held high. The hand should be low, holding a baton. Contributed by Dane for TimeLine Originals, June 2009
