=AndA= BRUTUS Military Tripod SCARCE GOOD EF! $417.00 Mar-20-01 Seller truecoins Brutus, committed suicide 42 BC. Roman Imperatoral - Silver Denarius, Military mint travelling with Brutus in SW Asia Minor, probably at Smyrna, spring to early summer 42 BC. Obverse: Bust of Libertas right, veiled and draped; before L SESTI PRO Q counterclockwise; all within beaded border. Reverse: Tripod between sacrificial ax and simpulum; behind and around clockwise Q.CAEPIO BRVTVS PRO COS; all within beaded border. Crude face with an emaciated appearance. Lettering is awkward in spacing and size. Two engraver's errors on the reverse, a small somewhat horizontal line in the lower right leg of the tripod and a line extending down from the "R." The "OS" in COS is definitely there under the tripod, but barely fits in, and extends into the horizontal line supporting the tripod. Engraved by a novice or by an ancient imitator. Sear #1433 has the "S" in COS under the tripod. However, I have not found another example of "OS" of COS under the tripod. 3.59 g, , 20.0 mm Sydenham 1290, rarity 5; Crawford 502/2; BMCRR East 41; Junia 37; Cohen 11; Vagi 87; Sear Mill 1433; Sear Imperators 201 (CRI).
