A member of the Pompeian party, Cn. Domitius Ahenobarbus was pardoned by Caesar, but after the latter’s death he followed Brutus to Macedonia. He was placed in command of a fleet and won a decisive victory on the day of the first battle of Philippi, for which he was saluted Imperator. After the deaths of Brutus and Cassius he became a pirate, but in 40 B.C. he was reconciled to Marc Antony, who made him governor of Bithynia.
