Bura, formerly on the coast of the Gulf of Corinth, was destroyed in 373 BC by the same earthquake which also destroyed Helike. It was rebuilt further inland with temples of Demeter, Aphrodite, Eileithyia and Isis. Bura joined the Achaean League in 275 BC. The ruins of "new" Bura are between the rivers of Bokhusia (Cerynites), and of Kalavryta (Buraicus) near Trupia, whilst the ruins of the original Bura are at the bottom of the sea.
