Browsing Byzantine Coinage of Theodore Mankaphas

Theodore Mankaphas was nicknamed "Morotheodore" ("Theodore the Fool") but he can't have been all that foolish. He was a prominent personage of Philadelphia, and in ca. AD 1188 he secured the allegiance of the inhabitants of that city and neighbouring provincials and made himself emperor. His coins are very rare.
