(1028-1034 AD). Romanus had no aptitude for the role of emperor and could claim no credit for the victories of his General George Maniaces. Empress Zoe had turned her affections to the eunuch Michael and when Romanus died in his bath he was succeeded by Michael who became Michael IV.
