            Lot 2529Great Britain. Pattern silver Webb & Mills Crown (1820). 
            ESC-221; KM-PnB80. George III. Plain edge. Marble-like portrait of 
            the king facing right. Crowther points out that the reverse emblems 
            are the English rose, Irish shamrock, Hanover horse and Scots 
            thistle, with a tiny St George garter in the center. Linecar and 
            Stone explain that Thomas Webb designed the portrait, George Mills 
            the distinctive cruciform reverse, as commissioned by James Mudie, 
            famous for his medals commemorating British victories. Scarce, but 
            never popular, perhaps this curious piece deserves some 
            re-consideration as a tribute to a dying king, for it must have been 
            made just as George III was drawing his last breaths. Also, if you 
            really want an example of this inexpensive pattern, perhaps this is 
            the piece to bid for! Unlike the typical scruffy one that hits the 
            market, here indeed is a superb and stunningly toned specimen, 
            shimmering in bluish green and gold iridescence. This coin indeed 
            must make all the others unexciting! NGC graded Proof 64.
