Goldberg Coins & Collectibles Auctions Sale 31: The Pre-Long Beach Auction May 30 - June 1, 2005 Lot 2525Great Britain. Pattern "Garter" silver Crown, 1804. George III. ESC-181. Rare. Bank of England "emergency" issue pattern, not used in subsequent currency issues: the central reverse here shows a smaller Garter circle and the Hanover shield within, whereas the adopted coinage ended up with a wider and longer Garter encircling a seated Britannia. This style enjoys an elegant presence, in effect a jumbo cameo surrounded by a broad band of deep denticles. On the reverse, the Garter is frosted, in relief against the mirror fields, again enjoying a broad band of denticles surrounding it. Lots of fine hairlines but brilliant with pleasing eye-appeal. NGC graded Proof 63. Estimated Value $3,250-3,500. Provenance: The Cheshire Collection. Realized $3,500 Courtesy Ira & Larry Goldberg Auctioneers, Beverly Hills, CA. www.goldbergcoins.com
